Welcome
to the UMD Department of Social Work Field Program Web Site
We hope
that whether you are a current MSW student, potential student, field
supervisor or community member you will be able to access information
about our field program requirements, as well as other field resources
at this site.
Our Field Program
Coordinator is Kathy Heltzer,
MSSW, LICSW. Additionally we have a dedicated
group of field faculty members who work with students every year
in an effort to make field placements rewarding for both MSW field
students and human service agencies.
We are especially
proud of our emphasis on working with diverse populations, tribal
and rural communities. We have over 200 field agencies approved
for field placements at the present time.
In 2005
we were
awarded a United
States Children's Bureau Grant to enhance the training
of Masters of Social Work (MSW) students for employment in
critical settings such as tribal and/or public sector child
welfare agencies.
We are also
pleased to recognize
the creation of our Center
for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies.
In June
of 2005, one of our students was named by the MN Chapter of
NASW as the "MSW
Student of the Year" for outstanding service to the
Duluth Community. Then, in 2009,
two more of our students were honored as co-winners of the
NASW
"MSW Student
of the Year" Award.
