Welcome to the UMD Department of Social Work Field Program Web Site

We hope that whether you are a current MSW student, potential student, field supervisor or community member you will be able to access information about our field program requirements, as well as other field resources at this site.

Our Field Program Coordinator is Kathy Heltzer, MSSW, LICSW. Additionally we have a dedicated group of field faculty members who work with students every year in an effort to make field placements rewarding for both MSW field students and human service agencies.

We are especially proud of our emphasis on working with diverse populations, tribal and rural communities. We have over 200 field agencies approved for field placements at the present time.

We were recently awarded a United States Children's Bureau Grant to enhance the training of Masters of Social Work (MSW) students for employment in critical settings such as tribal and/or public sector child welfare agencies.

We have also recently announced the creation of our new Center for Regional and Tribal Child Welfare Studies.

In June of 2005, one of our students was named by the MN Chapter of NASW as the "MSW Student of the Year" for outstanding service to the Duluth Community.

If you would like more information about our program and cannot find the answers here, please contact Kathy at 218-726-8935 or 1-888-534-9734 ext. 8935
