We are going to get up and get out walking! During your lunch hour come and join us for an outdoor walk around UMD (weather permitting). This is a way for you to take a break from your work to get some physical activity in for the day! Please meet in the Darland Lobby by 12:05pm. Wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes. NOTE: as with any diet or exercise program, please use caution and consult your doctor if you have a serious medical condition. |

Rain Garden Walk
|
We will meet in the lobby of the Darland Administration building by 12:05pm to learn about the effects of parking lot stormwater run-off as we walk to and through the College Street Rain Garden, then back across the upper plazas to see the rain gardens on Kirby Drive. The Rain Gardens were constructed in order to protect Oregon Creek and Tischer Creek by cooling and filtering run-off water that may be polluted with garbage and other sediments. The rain gardens provide the creeks with cleaner water flows.

Edible Garden Tour |
Join us for a tour of UMD's edible landscape. The University of Minnesota Duluth's Edible Garden Program was developed to create gardens on campus that involve students with educational purposes such as encouraging healthy eating, learning about regional foods, the growing process of plants an more. This year there are 13 student and faculty gardens throughout 9 locations on campus, growing a diverse number of edible plants, from vegetables to edible flowers to tea herbs."

Jonathan Roatch, the student coordinator of the edible gardens this year, is a Senior in the Outdoor Education program in the Department of Education

Portable Fire Extinguisher Training
|
Fire extinguishers are only valuable safety devices when you know how to use them. This course is designed to alleviate any questions about the use of fire extinguishers. It will also provide information to help you learn about the ABCs of fire extinguishers, how to perform visual inspections and decide whether or not to attempt to fight a fire.

Every year Americans spend billions of dollars on fad diets in hopes that these quick-fixes will help them keep their pounds off. While we try these dieting trends hoping that we will get miraculous results, we can't seem to stick with it. We will be briefly discovering some of the truths behind these fad diets and find solutions to many dieting dilemmas. |

Our society has fallen into a habit of being unhealthy snackers, how can we make our habits healthy? We will be uncovering the reasons why we snack, types of snacks, what ingredients and nutrients to look for, distinguishing good snacks from bad, and tips for yummy snack ideas. |

The NSC CPR/AED course is designed as part of Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) certification training. CPR and First Aid on
a choking victim will be taught through demonstration and practice
of mannequin and use of AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) will
be demonstrated.
