Outstanding Service Award
Project Award
2003-2004
Joseph Holterman and Darlene Morris
Library
Joe and Darlene led the implementation of the newest library automation software
for the campus. This was a major project of the utmost importance to the library
and the campus. They worked to make sure our campus has the best possible library
service. Migrating records from one system to another is very difficult and
tedious work. When you add up the different record types, Joe and Darlene had
to move over a million records. You try your best to get your data to map correctly
but idiosyncrasies of different systems often result in incorrect results. So
for data that did not migrate correctly, they had to initiate clean up projects.
In addition, they also had to train staff to work and assign system security
for each library worker. Joe coordinated the library training effort and Darlene
handled system security. In order to do this work, they had to gain an understanding
of the library system architecture and the record structure. I'm happy to say
that due to Joe and Darlene's efforts we had a functioning system available
to our campus by the beginning of the Fall 2003 semester with very little disruption
to faculty and students. It is with our thanks and appreciation that we present
Joe and Darlene with this Project award.
