Steve Patterson
Steve has worked for UMD in various technology positions for 35 years. He
has been a manager in Information Services (IS) and Information Technology Systems
and Services (ITSS) for 16 years. Steve has broad management responsibilities
within ITSS, managing support for Enterprise Systems, Desktop Services, Faculty
Services, Web Services, and Financial Management.
We are continually impressed at what a terrific job Steve does. He is able
to combine his broad background and experiences with his outstanding strengths
to provide work above and beyond expectations year after year. He encourages
staff to serve on UMD councils and committees and to work in partnership with
other departments and staff throughout the University to improve the functioning
of our campus services for students, staff, and faculty. He has served our campus
for many years and remains a staunch advocate and promoter of the excellent
work environment to be found at UMD.
Steve is able to engender creativity in others, recognizes a good idea when
it emerges, and is not afraid to support it. He has a track record of helping
his employees develop their ideas and then standing back to watch them succeed.
He takes time to understand their issues and points of view, but he pushes them
firmly toward better ways of working. He is a true collaborator who looks for
innovative ways of working with both staff members and customers of ITSS.
For Steve’s spirit, his dedication, and perseverance, it is a pleasure
to present Steve with this award.
