Continuous Service Award
During Carol’s “almost seven” years at UMD, she has
become known for her accuracy, efficiency and willingness to go above
and beyond to assist employees with budget questions. If she does not
know the answer, she will work to find it, and her approach of not only
assisting with the “how?” but also educating on the “why?”
has helped produce both timely payments and tremendous staff development.
Careful to stay within appropriate guidelines, Carol is always on the
lookout to smooth processes for departments. For example, when requests
were made to get purchasing card reports more frequently, she worked with
units to brainstorm possible solutions, developing a proposal allowing
units – under certain circumstances – to contact her and receive
the reports via email. This resulted in a higher compliance rate. Likewise,
when roadblocks were identified in contract payments, she worked with
units to improve and smooth the process so that payments to performers
are made on a timely basis.
Carol consistently applies her best to her UMD role. She is flexible,
adapts to meet the styles of those around her, and works hard - not only
for the Business Office, but for every department that asks for her assistance.
With her dedication to her position, department and the campus mission,
Carol is a great asset to UMD.
