Outstanding Service Awards (2006-2007
Brett Groehler
Continuous Service Award
Since his arrival in 1999, Brett Groehler’s photographs have epitomized
the spirit and essence of UMD. Present at all major UMD events from those
on the ice, court or gridiron; to White House visits, donor events and
commencement ceremonies, Brett consistently captures the perfect shot.
And he does it with tremendous commitment: despite late nights, early
mornings and every kind of weather, Brett has never missed a shoot (and
never complains about the hours)!
But his incredible skill behind the camera isn’t all he brings.
Before Brett’s arrival, UMD operated an outdated wet photo lab.
Brett converted us to the digital age, creating a first-class digital
photography studio and staying on top of that ever-changing technology.
And he shares that desire to “stay current” with his peers.
When he arrived, Brett instituted an annual gathering at UMD, providing
an opportunity for campus photographers from Minnesota colleges to meet,
discuss new concepts and exchange ideas.
Brett is described by his colleagues as a joy to work with, “professional,
thoughtful, and kind.”
