Outstanding Service Awards (2006-2007
Elaine Ruzycki, Jerald Henneck and
Norm Will
Natural Resources Research Institute
Continuous Service Award (Group Project)
Elaine, Jerald, and Norm, along with co-worker Jane Reed,
have been nominated by NRRI as a team that was critical to the development
of three nationally recognized community education and college-level education
projects. The team was also asked by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
in Duluth to develop a new website to disseminate data and educational
information to the general public about potential health risks associated
with beaches in the area. All together, these projects encompass seven
major grants, with several others currently pending.
Their work on Lake Superior Streams (formerly Duluth
Streams) is a centerpiece for the Western Lake Superior Regional
Storm-water Protection Consortium. This work directly helped UMD (via
Facilities Management Storm-water Permit) to meet its storm-water regulatory
obligations.
All members of this team are firmly committed to the mission of NRRI
and the Center for Water and the Environment. They are self-starters who,
as is typical for them, have held the projects together, responding to
problems with appropriate solutions and often working in adverse conditions,
under tight deadlines, with the uncertainty of soft money funding. For
your endeavors on these projects an your commitment and service
