Project Award for New Voice Mail System
The voice mail system for the UMD campus is an integral part of faculty,
staff and student life at UMD and most of us are dependent upon it. When
the vendor of our 13 year old voice-mail system told us it was at the
end of its life and would no longer be supported, Chuck, Lynn and Bill
worked closely as a team to provide a modern replacement. In an institution
of this size, that is no small feat.
This team played critical roles in the replacement: Chuck convinced the
ITSS management team to kick off a replacement project and hire a consultant.
He then shepherded the project through the RFP process, led the team evaluating
the proposals, handled coordination efforts and made sure vendors followed
through on all requirements.
With careful programming, Bill provided a reconfigured network space
for the voice mail service, making sure that all the pieces worked well
together and were safe from the wide array of network attacks.
Lynn was instrumental in organizing the replacement of 527 phones on
short notice, working closely with units across the campus to minimize
service outages and getting all the phones replaced well in advance of
the new voice-mail system going live.
All of them went well beyond what was expected to ensure things were
ready for the conversion and worked hard after the conversion to assist
customers and to clean up any remaining problems.
