Outstanding Service Award Recipient (2010-2011)
Project Award - UMD AMSOIL Arena Season Ticket Project
Susan MacDonald and Lisa Paczynski
In recent years UMD has seen no single event or program to rival the public anticipation of the new AMSOIL arena. While many of us just looked forward to the opening, Athletics’ Sue MacDonald and Lisa Paczynski were excruciatingly aware that it would require a strategic plan for the selection and distribution of new season tickets. And the timing of the arena opening – mid hockey season – would only serve to complicate an already difficult task.
Formulation of the plan really started in April 2008 when the State legislature approved the bonding bill. But it required that Sue & Lisa do research on priority systems, consult with universities that had recently opened new arenas, hold public forums and make detailed calculations before the selection process could even begin.
Then, while still maintaining “business as usual” back at the office, Sue and Lisa organized private tours for over 600 people throughout the summer to view the space and ask questions. After letters of invitation were sent to 2,500 ticket accounts, the two organized a team of 15 volunteers that worked 16, 12-hour days through the seat selection process. Then, an additional 2,000 season ticket requests were handled. After it was all done, 4500 new season ticket accounts were created.
We are grateful for all of their hard work on the successful and smooth distribution of season tickets, and we are proud to present Sue and Lisa with this award
