Rita Ohman
The Social Work department says that Rita Ohman exemplifies the best qualities of an outstanding staff member. They noted that she is effective in job completion, takes initiative and contributes many ideas and innovations, but it was her total dedication to her students, alumni, faculty and staff that was most commented on.
Since coming to Social Work in 2002, Rita has become known for being encouraging and supportive. Many students remarked that she had helped them prepare for upcoming events, notified them of job openings and continuing education opportunities, brought in treats for the grad student lounge, and even ensured that events included special food for students with dietary restrictions.
In addition, department members mentioned the monthly birthday celebrations that Rita organized. They noted that she had “saved the day” on more than one occasion – once even going so far as to pick up a rental vehicle she’d arranged, and then leaving a small box of candy and a note of encouragement on the seat, for the very anxious and stressed faculty member who needed the vehicle.
