Outstanding Service Award Recipient
UMD Teen Enterprise 2012 – Youth Entrepreneurship Camp
UMD Center for Economic Development, lead by a team of Sandi Larson, Jennifer Pontinen, Elaine Hansen, and Richard Braun, hosted the 3-years in the making pilot project, UMD Teen Enterprise 2012. The team worked to secure grant funding, developed the program, designed a curriculum, provided instruction and guidance, collaborated with Labovitz School of Business & Economics students; and partnered with a local chapter of Junior Achievement, a youth leadership program. Several participants already have their business and the rest are either going to inherit business from their parents or have a desire to start a business. This 5-day camp, held at UMD, gave them the tools and knowledge to run their own business. Local business owners offered their expertise for a “real-world” experience.
For their initiative and drive in mentoring high school students and instilling entrepreneurship at a young age, and thus future growth in leadership and business in the Duluth community, we present Sandi, Jennifer, Elaine, and Richard with this Outstanding Service Award.
