Outstanding Service Award Recipient
Corbin J. Smyth
Although his position with the Office of Student Life has defined duties, Corbin’s approach has been to believe that his job is much broader. He is committed to improving the experience and education of UMD students. Corbin is instrumental in the upcoming renovation of the first floor of Kirby Student Center, as well as providing a solid foundation for conversations about its future expansion. Corbin supported the web-based room reservation system, the relocation of the Catering office and the reorganization of the Kirby Student Center staff. Corbin’s initiative has had a positive impact on the physical space of the UMD campus and also on the culture and morale of those who have worked with him. In the process of improving the student experience, Corbin improves the day-to-day life on campus for countless staff and faculty members. Corbin also teaches a class, assists students with their academic, personal, and social issues; and has gone even further to mentor many students into student leadership roles at UMD and into their post-college careers.
The value of Corbin’s contribution cannot be overstated and I am proud to present you with this Outstanding Service Award.
