Steve Kinney

Steve Kineey from Minnesota Power (ALLETE) will be visiting class on Wednesday, April 2 to talk informally about his experiences writing, editing and supervising the production of the Allete web site. Since I didn't want Steve to have to prepare a speech or presentation, I assured him that you all would have lots of questions to keep the ball bouncing!

Here's a brief bio note that Steve sent along:

Age 52, resident of Duluth, Minn., married, with two children. Born in Chicago, has worked in six Midwestern states as a journalist and communicator. Hired as a staff writer, Minnesota Power (now ALLETE) Corporate Relations, January 1996. Current title: Writer/Editor

Primary duties at ALLETE:
" writing front section and coordinating production of ALLETE Annual Report
" content editor and liaison to program/design team for corporate web site, allete.com
" producing quarterly reports to shareholders and corporate profiles
" ghost-writing speeches for CEO, presidents of business units and other executives
" creating computer-aided business presentations for internal and external audiences
" writing and coordinating various company and subsidiary newsletters and publications

Employment history: Communications officer under temporary contract to municipal government of Duluth , Minn., 1995; staff reporter and feature writer at The Courier and The Press, Evansville, Ind., 1983-95; bureau chief and regional reporter, Scottsbluff Star-Herald, Scottsbluff, Neb., 1981-83; editor, writer and photographer, Gunnison Times and Crested Butte Chronicle, Gunnison County, Colo., 1978-81; Co-editor, columnist and photojournalist, Lamar Daily Democrat, Lamar, Mo., 1976-78. Freelance: writer, photographer, communications consultant and campaign manager, intermittently, 1980-95.

Education: B.A. in English, journalism minor, Metropolitan State College of Denver.
