WHAT CAN BE IMPROVED AT UMD OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM?

DORM LIFE

Not knowing what to expect when coming to college is very difficult for students. If the University did work to help each individual know what they're living space will be like, moving to college would run much more smoothly.

This link will bring you to a site with ideas on what to bring to college.

The pictures given online of each of the individual dorms do not clearly show the amount of space or storage a student has. If staff could take pictures of each of the different sections, with a current student's belongings in the room, prospective and first year students would have a better idea of what to bring.

Luckily here at Duluth, we have it pretty good compared to these guys...

ROOMMATE SITUATIONS

We think that if the University took time to give out questions to individuals and pair them based on some sort of common interest, lifestyle, or habits; roommates would get along better. One thing that has really caught our attention is that many people signed up to be with non smokers but ended up with smokers. This can be very distracting.

PARKING ON CAMPUS

Students are very lucky at UMD to have the opportunity to even bring cars; however, parking will cost you. It will cost $190 dollars for the academic year. Also, there is no guarantee that you will be parking close to your dorm or apartment. The lots span the side of the campus, and some lots can be a block and a half away from the main campus building. If the campus took more time to figure out where students lived and designated specific parking lots for them to park in, parking could be much more convenient.

If you have your own suggestions or want more information here is the main page for parking at UMD.
