If UMD only offered......Nursing & Marine Biology

Nursing:

Nursing at UMD? At the moment there is no nursing program within the walls of this university. All of the medical fields, including nursing have been on a gradual increase. This is due to a large demand for workers throughout the entire country. I believe that it is crucial for the University of Minnesota Duluth to hop on this growing train.

There would be many benefits for offering a nursing program here. One main reason would be to attract many new students that never had the chance to go here. Also, with this addition of this program there would be an increase in population of students meaning more revenue to the university. There should be no need to create a whole new building for this freshly added course either since the Duluth campus already has a medical building. Nursing is a greatly increasing field and I believe that it should be offered at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

but wait what about Marine Biology?

Imagine working on the open seas, gaining research on ocean wild life. For someone who would enjoy this wouldn’t consider this a job at all. At UMD this dream could be achieved if there was a Marine Biology program. Currently there is not salt water Marine Biology major. Yes, it’s true we don’t live near an ocean but there are basic requirements that one can fill for a B.S in this field.

This program would help students see if they would want to pursue in further education and work there way up in their field of Marine Biology as well as cut the price down for the same degree at costly coastal schools that specifically take interest.  Students would be able to see a wide variety of what this program could do for their field and could also apply for fresh water Marine biology as well.

The sciences building could house this program letting more money to be invested into the program with teachers as well as resources. As the demand for water and water life in the world increases, whether it be overfishing in our oceans or invasive species clogging our great lakes, this program would be a much need one to offer at UMD and society.
