Poetry Presentations

Due Dates: Requirements:
Sign up for a time and date to present 5-10 minute oral presentation
Individually or as part of a group
(Groups should take 5 minutes per group member.)

Objective

Choose one poem from the syllabus for this class and present it to the class. Provide your own interpretation of the poem and make the case for those details that are, in your view, the most important. How does this poem compare to the other poems we have read this semester?

Procedure

  1. Sign up for one poem on the syllabus (not including poems by Frost or Hughes). Work with the other students who have signed up for that poem to consider shared issues across that poet's corpus.

  2. Take notes on the poem's peculiaritiesÑwhat makes this poem different from all of the others? You may also use visual aids if they wish (chalkboard, PowerPoint, etc.). You may present your analysis individually, or as part of a group of students addressing the same poet.

  3. Sign up for a presentation slot some time before Wednesday, January 25th, 2018.

Grading Standards

Presentations will receive A-F grades based on the following criteria:

Clarity of the argument about the poem's meaning.

Effective use of examples from the text.

Creativity in interpreting specific quotations from the poem.
