The importance of agriculture to Minnesota rural populations.

Agriculture is an essential and vital segment of Minnesota’s economy, 
particularly the rural economy.  Minnesota is in the top ten tiers 
of national agricultural producers. 

 


Due to the importance of agriculture to the rural economy and the diversity of commodities 
in the state, it is crucial that health care providers and educators understand 
health issues that impact those that work in agriculture. 

 

Agriculture diverse industries:

  • Grain, animal, and dairy production
  • Processing of poultry, hogs, beef, and grain
  • Silviculture - raising trees, not forestry
  • Aquaculture – fisheries

Agriculture related industries:

  • Veterinary services
  • Grain storage elevators
  • Nurseries, greenhouses, and horticulture
  • Custom application of anhydrous ammonia and pesticides
