"How does your family celebrate Thanksgiving?" Sam's grandpa asked Maggie. "Football-watching or game-playing? From what Sam has told me about your cooking, I'll bet your mother was amazing in the
kitchen."

"Uh, we don't really do much. Nothing special. Nothing like this." She gestured at the family members gathered in the room.

Sam's grandpa looked at her intently through his wonderfully soft eyes and nodded.

"Turkey's ready!" a voice called out from somewhere in the middle of the house.

As he began to move away, he turned back, took her hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze.
 
"I'm glad you're here." Sam's grandpa let go of her hand as he walked toward a group that had congregated at the other end of the couch.

"Um, thanks." Maggie stammered.
