Hi I'm Savannah Samii I am a business student at UMD who is pursuing management and consumer insights and analytics.
I come from a large family of eight and was born and raised in Hasting, MN.
Some of my hobbies include running, hiking, listening to music, skiing, and spending time with my friends and family.
In the future I hope to study abroad or spend a semester doing independent travel. One of my latest interests has been the MIS field of study, specifically the evil twin attack scam.
This scam is cyberattack in which a fake wifi network access point is created in order to trick users into connecting to it. After connection, the hackers then can gain access to the users senesitive data. This example really closed the gaps and helped me understand the back entry ways of hacking, and emphisizes how important data security is. I found this topic interesting a relatable as I have elderly grandparents who are susceptible to scams such as this.
There are a multitude of companies that invest in digital secuirty and could face the potential threat of the eveil twin attack scam. One such company is Cisco Technology Systems. Cisco manufactures and sells netowrking tehcnology as well as software and hardware. The company also uses wireless wifi access points, would could potentially be corrupted through the scam. While Cisco wants to protect its own devlopments and software, it also seeks to add extra layers of security in their programs to protect their clients as well.
Another company that falls under the same scrutiny is Fortinet, a cybersecurity company that partners with many large companies to protect their sensitive information. Such as Cisco wishes to protect its own software and clients, Fortinet is even more responsible to its clients. When using automated security responses as well as wireless wifi access points, Fortinet opens itself up to this scam as well, and must learn to develop their software in order to accurately match cyber threats as they arise.
