In abusive relationships the partner being abused first of all has most likely been abused earlier in life either by a family member or an early boyfriend/girlfriend. They usually accept this as normal treatment. And usually think of the behavior as a way that the abuser shows their love. Ex. I only hit you because I love you, baby. They usually stay with the abuser because they have become acustomed to this lifestyle. Or they believe that they really doing something that would make them deserve the abuse. They may stay because of love but it is an unhealthy kind of love. They may stay out of fear also. I think I personally would leave before I got caught in the cycle of abuse.
