The Department of Political Science at UMD is not going away!
A recent article in the media incorrectly stated that our department would be eliminated as part of the university's efforts to fix its budgetary problems. This is not the case. The Department of Political Science received high marks in the recent evaluation of all programs on campus. The future of one of the graduate programs in the College of Liberal Arts is under discussion.
The Department of Political Science has been a part of UMD for more than 60 years, and we plan to be here for at least another 60 more. We appreciate your concern about our department's future, and are making great plans for the future. Please do not hesitate to contact the department if you have any questions about the department, our curriculum, or how you can support what we do.
The Department of Political Science houses two programs:
the BA in Political Science
the BA in International Studies
The Department also contributes to the University's Liberal Education Program, serves other CLA programs and units such as Environmental Studies, Women's Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies (American Studies and Humanities and Classics), Communications, Urban and Regional Studies, Philosophy, The Center for Policy and Ethics, The Center for Regional Studies, The Alworth Institute for International Studies, Studies Abroad, as well as programs in other Colleges such as the School of Business and Economics and the College of Education and Human Services Professions.
