The Munger Autograph

Almost all Munger paintings are signed. The autograph is always "Gilbert Munger" printed in a stylized manner that remains remarkably consistent over his career. Most of the few unsigned paintings appear to have had the signature removed when the painting was cut down.

Here are several examples of the Munger autograph, along with samples of his cursive signature:

Autograph 1.Autograph from 1870 painting

Autograph 2.Autograph from 1870 painting

Autograph 3.Signature from 1875 hotel register

Autograph 4.Pencil signature on 1879 etching

Autograph 5.Autograph from 1890s painting

Autograph 6.Signatures from ca 1902 letters
