#336. Pastoral Landscape.

  16 x 20, oil on canvas. No signature visible on the painting. A frame plate says: "G Munger". The dimensions reported here are estimates calculated from images of the framed painting showing a tape measure next to the painting. Based on similarity to other identified examples, this locale is French and likely the plains near the village of Barbizon. Offered for $15,000 (or best offer) in the Fall of 2023 on EBay by the seller "roblau4434" as item number 145228367331. The seller claims Gilbert Munger as the artist and the style of the painting supports this attribution. The painting was offered in a period gold-leaf frame, likely the original one. The original stretcher bears an illegible torn paper label. The back of the canvas shows the following material supplier's stamp: "PREPARED BY / WINSOR & NEWTON / LIMITED / 33, RATHBORN PLACE, / LONDON." The firm became LIMITED in 1881.
