COURSE REQUIREMENTS SUMMARY | Summary Table | Syllabus | ATTENDANCE / PARTICIPATION: Attendance and informed class participation is required. Small group work will count heavily toward your grade for participation. NOTE: For each UNEXCUSED ABSENCE from class -- or attendance, but obviously being unprepared for informed class participation -- 3.5% of the final grade will be deducted. Normally, excused absences must be secured before the class meeting. More than three unexcused absences will likely result in an "F" grade for the course. DAILY READING ASSIGNMENTS: as assigned WEB ASSIGNMENTS: Example: Week 01 Bedford / St. Martin's "The Writing Process" Bedford / St. Martin's On-line Resources DAILY WRITING ASSIGNMENTS: materials from the Weekly Class Schedule: Week 01, Week 02. . . . weekly assignments from the WorldWide Web (Week 01), (Week 02) . . . . writing exercises for class, including in-class written exercises and note / bibliography cards on assigned readings Unless you have an excused absence (see Attendance), late daily exercise assignments will not be accepted. FIVE WRITING PROJECTS: Five written projects, as noted in the table above, with drafts and revisions, will account for about 48% of your final grade. You will write for different audiences and for different purposes. The projects include: Project (P#1A): Descriptive report on in-class video (required, but not graded) Project (P#2A): Interview (may be revised for a higher grade) Project (P#3A): Comparison/contrast Informative newsletter article Project (P#4A): Speech Project (P#5A): Proposal or Argumentative Essay Assignments must be turned in on time. EACH UNEXCUSED (OR FEEBLY EXCUSED) LATE ASSIGNMENT WILL RECEIVE A 5% (of your final grade) PENALTY. FINAL EXAM AND COMPLETION OF ALL REQUIREMENTS 1 - 4: The final exam and all assignments must be completed, each with at least a C average, in order to get a final grade.
